Bruins top Chiefs 5-3

Mark Santorelli led the way offensively with a goal and three assists as the Bruins defeated the Spokane Chiefs 5-3 Monday afternoon in Chilliwack. With the win, the Bruins improve to 6-2-0-0 on the season and are currently in sole possession of first place in the BC Division.

Spokane opened the scoring on the powerplay when Ondrej Roman deflected a Jared Spurgeon point shot behind Bruins netminder Matt Esposito at the 10:02 mark of the first period. Chilliwack tied the game with 1:08 left on the first period clock when Oscar Moller on a spectacular individual effort fired home his third of the season.

In the second period Chilliwack chased Spokane starting goaltender Dustin Tokarski when they took a 3-1 lead on goals by Partik Bhungal and Jadon Potter. After calling a timeout, the Chiefs came back with two quick goals, tying the game on goals by Seth Compton and Levko Koper.

It was all Bruins in the third period. Mark Santorelli tipped home what proved to be the game winner at the 4:34 mark. Colby Kulhanek with this sixth goal of the season added the insurance marker on the powerplay with 3:59 remaining in the game.

Matt Esposito made 21 saves to earn his sixth victory of the season.

Chilliwack outshot Spokane 31-24.

Chilliwack was 1/5 on the powerplay, Spokane went 1/4.

Ice Chips: Mark Santorelli's point streak now stands at eight games, six shy of the team record of 14 set by Santorelli last season...Santorelli also has a five game assist streak going, tying the team record set last season by Josh Aspenlind...with a three game goal scoring streak, Jadon Potter has tied the team record. Oscar Moller and Ken Petkau both had three game goal streaks last season. Colby Kulhanek scored in three consecutive games earlier this season...with four points in the game, Santorelli is now tied for the league scoring lead with 15 points...Rookie Jeff Einhorn picked up his first WHL point with an assist on Oscar Moller's goal..Nick Holden was plus two in the game and is now a plus eight on the season, good for top spot in the WHL...With ten points (6g 4a) Colby Kulhanek ranks 10th in league scoring...The Bruins next game is Saturday when they host the Calgary Hitmen.
