Three goals in the second and four in the third propelled the Kamloops Blazers to a 7-2 victory Friday night in Chilliwack. 

Seven different goal scorers bulged the twine for the Blazers, who have now won five of the eight meetings between the two clubs this season.

With the win, the Blazers (23-24-1-2) jump past the Bruins (22-21-3-1) for 7th spot in the WHL’s Western Conference Standings. Chilliwack trails Kamloops by one point in the standings but has three games in hand on the Blazers.

The game was scoreless after one period of play. Kamloops held a 3-1 lead after forty minutes.

Mike Proudley with his fifth, and Brandon Campos with his 19th scored goals for the Bruins.

Final shots on goal were 37-30 in favor of the Blazers. Chilliwack was 1/2 with the man advantage. Kamloops was 3/6. Justin Leclerc earned the victory for Kamloops, Matt Esposito took the loss for Chilliwack.

The two teams will meet again Saturday night in Kamloops. Game time is 7pm. The next home game for Chilliwack is Sunday when they host the Spokane Chiefs. Please note the game time is 5pm.

Ice Chips: The Bruins, felled by injury and illness, were able to dress only 19 skaters for the game. Out of the lineup were Partik Bhungal (leg injury), Cody Smuk (shoulder injury) and Nick Holden (flu)...the game was played in front of 5,138 fans, the third largest crowd in Bruins history...

Hankin Called Up: The Bruins have called up 16 year old Ryan Hankin from the Hope Ice Breakers of the Pacific International Junior Hockey League. Hankin was the Bruins 5th pick, 73rd overall in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft. The pick used to select Hankin was acquired from the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for the Blazers selection in the 2006 WHL Expansion Draft. In 23 games with the Ice Breakers this season, Hankin has 3 goals, 8 assists and 10 penalty minutes.

Hot Rookie – Rookie forward Brayden Metz recorded his first WHL 2 goal game last Friday in a 3-2 loss in Kelowna. Metz added his fourth of the season one night later in a 3-2 home ice win over the Kamloops Blazers.

 

Scoring Race: Bruins forward Mark Santorelli is in second place in WHL scoring with 70 points. Santorelli trails Kelowna’s Colin Long by nine points.  

 

Iron Mark: Cody Smuk missed his first WHL game last night, leaving Mark Santorelli as the only  player to have appeared in every game the Bruins have played. Including five playoff games, Santorelli has played in 124 consecutive games.

Milestones: Dylan Chapman is playing in his 200th WHL game tonight…Mark Santorelli has 50 WHL goals…Randy McNaught scored his first WHL goal last Saturday vs Kamloops.

Career Highs: Nick Holden has set new career highs this season with 11 goals and 36 points. Last season, in 67 games, Holden scored eight times and finished with 31 points. Matt Esposito has set a new personal best and Bruins team record with 16 wins.

Pighin Awarded: 19 year old forward Evan Pighin has been named the Bruins Player of the Month for December. In 11 games in December, Pighin scored six times and added five assists. On December 4th vs Prince George Pighin had a personal best four points (2g 2a).

After forty tells the story: Chilliwack has a record of 15-1-0-0 when leading after forty minutes of play. When trailing after two periods, the Bruins are 1-17-1-0.

Extra Time: The Bruins are 1-3 in overtime and 4-1 in shootouts this season.
