Ice Freeze Bruins in Shootout

February 8 2008

Dustin Sylvester scored the winner in the shootout as the Kootenay Ice skated to a 4-3 shootout win over the Bruins in Chilliwack Friday night.

The Bruins and Ice battled back and forth all night with the lead changing hands several times..

Oscar Moller scored to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead after one period.  The Ice countered with two quick goals, both by Captain Steve DaSilva to take a 2-1 lead early in the middle frame. Nick Holden made it 2-2 mid way through the period before Dustin Sylvester regained the lead for the Ice. David Robinson capped off a wild period of scoring, netting a shorthanded marker to tie things at 3-3 after 40 minutes of play.

After an entertaining, but scoreless 3rd period and overtime, Sylvester was the only player to score in the shootout, going glove side on Mark Friesen for the deciding tally.

Friesen takes his second straight shootout loss while Kris Lazeruk notched his 19th victory of the season in the Kootenay goal.

The Bruins now play 3 on the road, starting Saturday night in Kelowna. The Bruins next home game is Saturday February 18th when they host the Prince George Cougars.
