Last year it took them thirteen games, this year only two as the Bruins earned their second victory of the season Saturday night with a 2-0 shutout win over the

Portland Winter Hawks. The Bruins are now 2-0 in home openers, having defeated the Kelowna Rockets 3-1 to kick off their inaugural season last year.

Jadon Potter’s first WHL goal was the only goal of the first period. It was Potter himself who started the play making a nice play at the Hawks blueline to keep the puck

in. Colby Kulhanek then started a give and go with Ryan Howse who returned the puck to Kulhanek with a behind the pack pass. Kulhanek then fed the puck back to Potter who one timed the puck past Hawks netminder Jordan White.

Chilliwack outshot Portland 4-3 in the opening frame.

In the second it was all Chilliwack as they outshot Portland by a margin 23-5. Bruins forward Cody Smuk gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead, tipping in a point shot by Mark Santorelli during a two man advantage. Nick Holden also picked up an assist on the play.

There was no scoring in the third period.

Chilliwack outshot Portland 32-16 in the game. The Bruins were 1/8 on the power play. Portland went 0/ 5.

Ice Chips: Matt Esposito stopped all 16 shots he faced to pick up his first shutout of the season. Through two games Esposito is 2-0 with a save percentage of 97.4…The 23 shots by the Bruins in the second period set a new team record for most shots in one period. The previous record was 20, also against Portland in the second period of a 3-2 shootout win over the Hawks last March in Chilliwack…The Bruins also tied a team record in the game for fewest shots against in one game with Portland managing just 16 shots on goal...The Bruins are right back at in Sunday vs the Tri City Americans. Game time is 5pm at Prospera Centre.
