Bruins edge Hitmen 2-1

The Bruins got two goals from Brandon Campos and 26 saves from goaltender Matt Esposito in a 2-1 victory over the CHL's top ranked Calgary Hitmen Saturday night in Chilliwack. With the win, the Bruins remain tied with the Vancouver Giants for first place in the BC Division. The two teams will battle for first place Sunday, 5pm at Prospera Centre.

The Hitmen entered the game on an 0/20 streak on the powerplay but Ian Duval connected on their third man advantage of the game to give the Hitmen a 1-0 lead at the 15:57 mark of the first period. The Bruins replied with a powerplay marker of their own when Brandon Campos knocked home a rebound with 57 seconds left in the first period.

In the second period, it was Brandos Campos again driving the net and sliding a rebound past Hitmen goaltender Martin Jones at the 55 second mark. It proved to be the final goal of the night.

In the third period, Esposito came up big, making 16 saves, several of the acrobatic variety as Calgary outshot Chilliwack 16-2 in the final twenty minutes of the game.

The Bruins outshot the Hitmen 30-27 in the game.

Chilliwack went 1/6 on the powerplay. Calgary was 1/7

The Bruins are back on the ice Sunday afternoon at Prospera Centre when they host the Vancouver Giants. Game time is 5pm.

Ice Chips: Bruins forward Mark Santorelli was kept off the scoresheet ending his point streak at eight games...Matt Esposito earned the win, giving him seven on the season, tops in the WHL...Brandon Campos now has four goals and two assists in his first four games with the Bruins...The Bruins did not dress Dylan Chapman, Ryan Howse, Matt Meropoulis or Cam Stevens, all remain out of the lineup with injuries.
